The PCs manage to talk their way out of Jengi's
accusations, but her father Tuga-dai is determined to test
their mettle with an "elf-run". While Tik-tik is left
behind, the others run into the desert with the chieftain
and his warband. After several hours of unrelenting run, Terric and Toruk cannot keep up with the
elves, and are left behind to die without water nor
supplies in the desert. Darok completes the task, and the
elves eventually let him go free.
In the meanwhile Tik-tik finds the captive druid (a fellow thri-kreen) in one of the ruined towers of the Jura-dai home. With a diversion, he manages to let the druid
escape before leaving the fortress himself.
The PCs reunite in the rocky badlands, and make their way
to the oasis. The druid uses his magic to purify several
barrels of water, which the PCs drink to relieve their
fatigue.
Fearing retribution from Tuga-dai, the PCs seek the help
of the dwarves of Kled.
Together they prepare to defend
the oasis from the Jura-dai, setting traps, fortifying
their positions, and training the peaceful dwarves as
best they can.
The day after the Jura-dai arrive in great numbers to the
oasis, led by a vengeful Tuga-dai.
Battle is joined, and
among the fray the PCs face the elven chieftain and his
warband. Toruk kills Tuga-dai, and retrieves the Sword of
Kemalok he had stolen from them.
With Tuga-dai dead, the elves lose their will to fight and
retreat. Many dwarves and elves have died, but it's clear the Jura-dai
won't bother the dwarves nor the druid for a long time.
The PCs return the Sword of Kemalok to the village elder Barunus; as
a reward, the wise dwarf makes them a gift of a few
ancient golden coins. The party says their goodbyes, and make their way west, hoping to find shelter and safety behind the walls of the city of Tyr.
